Research Ethics Coordinators (2) - University of Guelph

The University of Guelph is currently hiring for two full-time Research Ethics Coordinators: one permanent and one temporary. See below for details.


Reporting to the Manager of Research Ethics, the Research Ethics Coordinator (REC) will assist the Manager, Research Ethics with the coordination and processing of applications to the University Research Ethics Board – General (REB-G).

Coordination and processing of applications to the University Research Ethics Board – General (REB-G) will include: providing secretarial assistant to the Manager, Research Ethics and the REB-G; managing continuing ethics review; coordinating monthly meetings of REB-G; and assisting with reporting where required by the Manager, Research Ethics Services. The incumbent will conduct proficient, critical analyses of research protocols and will provide pre-review for clarification feedback to researchers to ensure complete applications are prepared for REB-G member review. The REC will liaise with researchers to respect principles and requirements of the Tri-Council Policy Statement regarding research ethics and guidelines established by the University of Guelph. The REC for the REB-G board will be expected to work closely with the REC for the Research Ethics Board-Natural, Physical and Engineering Sciences, sharing responsibilities as required.

Requirements of the position include: Community College 2-year diploma (Undergraduate degree preferred) plus three (3) years related experience and/or an equivalent of education and experience. Formal post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., administration or ethics) would be considered an asset.  The incumbent must have strong analysis and critical thinking skills in the review of university-level documents; excellent communication skills both oral and written is required; strong customer service orientation; excellent Word processing skills; thorough knowledge of MS Excel; experience in data entry into Oracle and Access data bases; experience using Microsoft Outlook system including email; Internet skills in locating and retrieving information; general workplace skills including filing, data processing, and minute taking; strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines; and experience dealing with sensitive/confidential material. The incumbent must be able to consistently maintain high levels of productivity and ability to deal with a high volume of communications and interactions and handle complicated situations tactfully.
